Proverbs 10:22 Riches_

It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it. ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭10:22‬ ‭NASB‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

One may be rich in soul, friendship, speech, and many other ways, but there is no ambiguity with the Hebrew word “Ashar” — it means to be wealthy. Physically, to have substance and increase. Rich means more than having just enough. It’s having much more than enough.

The word for sorrow is “etseb;” which Strong interprets to be: an earthen vessel; usually (painful) toil; also a pang (whether of body or mind): grievous, idol, labor, sorrow.

If sorrow refers to labor, another translation could be: “And a man’s own labor addeth nothing thereto” which would make it clear where the wealth originated.

There are times when I’ve received something that I had not expected, did not feel entirely worthy of, or surprised me by the extravagance of the gift. Besides feeling deep thankfulness and a sense of unworthiness comes the questions, “Can I keep it? Or, how long is it mine?” I remember feeling this way when the girl I was dating agreed to become my wife. And again when this woman gave birth to sons. It was a feeling of being blessed with something so far beyond my doing. Yet Solomon makes it clear: this is something that Yahweh adds, and there is no work or toil, sorrow or payment that augments what he freely gives.

When our Father blesses us with prosperity and wealth, it is ours. He freely gives it and there are no apologies. Rather, your awe, satisfaction, surprise, and pleasure are simply a delight to him.

What do I need? What am I capable of handling? Our Father is good and gives beyond our wildest dreams. Wealth is one thing he gives. Also, wisdom. Gifts of the Spirit. Friendships. Influence. Position. Opportunity. It’s His blessing that makes rich. Consider the following:

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Romans‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NASB‬‬

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable [for He does not withdraw what He has given, nor does He change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call]. ROMANS‬ ‭11:29‬ ‭AMP

I love those who love me [wisdom]; And those who diligently seek me will find me. “Riches and honor are with me, Enduring wealth and righteousness. To endow those who love me with wealth, That I may fill their treasuries. Proverbs‬ ‭8:17-18, 21‬ ‭NASB‬‬‬‬‬‬

But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:18‬ ‭NASB‬‬‬‬‬‬
