Proverbs 13:22 Magnetism and money

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22 NASB

There are a lot of similarities between people worldwide, but there is something extraordinary about the children of God: I have enough, and often more than enough. Humans must work, manage resources, think about our families and future. But as a child who belongs to Abba, I discover extraordinary grace as I lean in to His nature of sowing and reaping, fruitfulness, loving Him first, and living connected to the vine with the life flow of heaven reaching all of my efforts.

While one man plans for success, another plans for sustainable success — looking to the future and those who will come.

Using the Hebrew, the following is an amplified look at this verse:

A good [beautiful, best, bountiful, cheerful, at ease, be in favor] man leaves an inheritance [dividing, distributing, heritage, purpose to, give to] to his children’s children, and the wealth [strength, efficiency, wealth, army] of the sinner [bear the blame, cleanse, commit sin, by fault, harm he hath done, loss, miss] is stored up [to hide by covering over — by implication to hoard or reserve; to protect, lay up, keep secret] for the righteous [just, lawful].

Solomon is speaking of tangible things and spiritual. They both have substance — the spiritual even more so since it is my future. There is a blessing or favor that accompanies the children of God. His word over us is prosperity. Goodness. Wealth. Character. Virtue. These things reflect the kingdom of “more than enough.” There are many who experience success in this life. But short sightedness — which includes failing to recognize the equity and principles of the kingdom over a life that continues beyond these bodies—creates an opportunity for whatever was gained, to be redistributed to the children that are diligently applying them.

Like thirst attracts water, faithfulness attracts supply. The same diligence that a man or woman has in storing up an inheritance for the future, teaches and imbues the children with the same attitude and mind. Who is the more qualified to manage resources than those who look forward, plan ahead, and understand the cycles of sowing and reaping? Having enough is not “the end” in itself. It is a means to enjoying and extracting the real value from life and my time in this body.

The theme of supply and the magnetism of faithfulness fills the pages of the Bible:

To him who has, more will be given, to him who doesn’t have, what he does have will be taken from him.

Matthew 13:12

I have been young and now I am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or his descendants begging bread.

Psalms 37:25 NASB

He who increases his wealth by interest and usury Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor.

Proverbs 28:8 NASB

For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God’s sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 2:26 NASB

This is the portion of a wicked man from God, And the inheritance which tyrants receive from the Almighty. Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; and his descendants will not be satisfied with bread. His survivors will be buried because of the plague, And their widows will not be able to weep. Though he piles up silver like dust and prepares garments as plentiful as the clay, He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.

Job 27:13-17 NASB

Then you will see and be radiant, And your heart will thrill and rejoice; Because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you, The wealth of the nations will come to you.

Isaiah 60:5 NASB

But you will be called the priests of the LORD; You will be spoken of as ministers of our God. You will eat the wealth of nations, And in their riches you will boast. Instead of your shame you will have a double portion, And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land, Everlasting joy will be theirs.

Isaiah 61:6-7 NASB
